About the Recovery Walking Poles
Walking poles for the stage between crutches and walking unaided.
Designed by the Recovery Kit team for patients moving off crutches after lower-limb surgery or injury. Lightweight aluminium, adjustable from 61 to 135 cm, with cork handles, thick wrist straps and a carry case.
The Recovery Walking Poles are built for one of the most important stages of rehab: coming off two crutches and back to full weight-bearing. We recommend them for all post-surgical patients, and in particular after knee replacement, hip replacement, hip resurfacing, and ACL or MCL reconstruction. Using two poles keeps your movement symmetrical, which helps you walk upright with a straight back, an engaged core and your arms at the right angle. Each pole has an aviation-grade aluminium shaft in three sections, weighs around 260 g and locks with a quick-release flip lock. The cork handles stay comfortable over longer walks, and the thick wrist straps help you hold the poles correctly. They collapse down to 61 cm and come with a carry case, so you can store them at home or take them with you when you're out. They also suit anyone with reduced mobility, and walkers and runners managing a niggle.
How to use them
When patients come off two crutches, the usual next step is a single crutch. We don't recommend it. A single crutch loads one side of the body more than the other, which makes good walking form very hard to keep and can lead to a limp. Once your surgeon or physio has cleared you for partial weight-bearing, move from two crutches straight to two walking poles. Use them at your own pace, and keep both poles moving in rhythm with your opposite foot, as you would swing your arms when walking normally.

Once your surgeon or physio has cleared you for partial weight-bearing. Move from two crutches straight to two walking poles, and use them at your own pace.
Why two walking poles rather than a single crutch?
A single crutch loads one side of the body more than the other, which makes good walking form very hard to keep and can lead to a limp. Two poles keep your movement symmetrical, so you walk upright with a straight back, an engaged core and your arms at the right angle.
Who are they for?

Each pole adjusts from 61 to 135 cm with a quick-release flip lock, and collapses to 61 cm to fit the carry case.
